Walled Kitchen Garden Re-development

This year, the Walled Garden will be closed as we re-develop the area to include a brand new Coffee Shop & Ticket office, opening in 2024.

We plan to take a step back in time and be inspired by the original Walled Kitchen Garden to create an historically authentic garden.

In 2023, our retail & catering offering will be limited, but visitors will still be able to enjoy hot/cold drinks, cakes and light lunches at The Pantry, located in the Castle.

Closure of the Butterfly House

It is with a heavy heart that Berkeley Castle has made the difficult decision to close the Butterfly House permanently.

We have plans to celebrate our native Butterflies in the gardens soon.

Celebrating the NHS

In a tribute to all the hard work Gloucestershire’s NHS workers are doing to fight Coronavirus, Berkeley Castle was lit up in blue to show support and solidarity.

The Castle joined the #makeitblue campaign, where buildings and landmarks were lit with blue lights to tie in with the Thursday evening Clap for Carers.

New Education Room

Following a successful application for Grant funding from the LEADER Project last summer, we were able to commence the much-needed work to our Education Room as soon as we closed our doors to visitors at the end of October last year.

Local Building Contractors, Stevensons, were instructed and have been extremely busy during our winter break. The room has now been fully insulated and re-roofed, the walls have been dry-lined and re-plastered, the floor has been insulated, new double glazed windows and doors have been fitted to the front of the building and new wall heaters have been added to make it cosy!

All of the above work and more, have combined to leave us with an amazing comfortable and large space for schools to enjoy during their visits, whether it be to take part in one of our workshops, or just offering shelter on a chilly day to eat lunch.
