Tudor Players & Antiphonary

June 21, 2026 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

Step back in time for our Tudor Players Day at Berkeley Castle. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the past as live music and traditional Tudor dancing fill the Great Hall. With costumed performers and a lively, immersive atmosphere, it’s a wonderful way to experience the grandeur of the Castle as it might have been in the 1500s. Perfect for all ages, this special day brings history to life in the most entertaining way.

We also have two performances of Liz Lane’s Antiphonary by award winning Lydbrook Band, conducted by Steve Phillips, who are playing an entertaining programme of music for all ages.

Antiphonary is inspired by Berkeley Castle and has been performed throughout the UK and Europe since it was written in 2012. This is the first time it will have been heard at the Castle.

The title refers to the Berkeley family antiphonary, the large and beautifully illuminated book of liturgical texts and chants dating back to around 1457, found in the Morning Room. The music traces an historical timeline of the castle’s history and also incorporates excerpts from Vivaldi arias (thought to be the only known copies) from his opera La Costanza Degli-amori e de gl’odii (The triumphant constancy of love and hate), found in the castle muniments in 2002.

This event is included in the standard admission ticket. Simply book a ticket for 21st June.
