| The Berkeley Skirmish - Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th July 2009 Billed as a “Rumbustious Mediaeval Romp” this annual event is an unforgettable chance to experience the mediaeval world of jousting, archery, falconry. Witness assaults on the historic Castle and wander through the Living History camps, seek medical advice from the ‘wise woman’ and shop at mediaeval market stalls and modern trade stands. Free entry to Berkeley Castle is included in the ticket price and the Castle will be open on both Saturday and Sunday. Public access to the Castle this weekend will only be through the Skirmish event. Admission: Adults £12; Under 14’s £7.00; Under 5’s Free; Family £32.00 (2 x adults & 2 x children) Tickets only available from the organisers: http://www.berkeleyskirmish.com Berkeley Show – Mon 31st August 2009 A typical Country Show and the highlight of the agricultural year in the Vale of Berkeley. This show, now in its 108th Year, is a great day out for any family wanting to see the beating heart of the countryside - show Jumping and a visit by the hounds of the Berkeley Hunt and much much more. | Castle by Candlelight | ||||

| Held on 4th - 6th December 2009 One of the Castle's best loved and most popular events. Visitors were treated to a real Norman Castle by candlelight and flickering fires, decorated traditionally throughout with Christmas greenery. The Great Hall was the home to a huge Christmas Tree and plenty of festive cheer. Children met Father Christmas in his special grotto, and afterwards everybody enjoyed the carols in the Great Hall. The smell of the woodsmoke, soft candlelight and imagining all the Christmases that the Castle had been part of over the centuries made this a truly memorable and magical Christmas experience for all the family in a surprisingly cosy seasonal setting. |
